Cicely Hooten

Cicely is a graduate of Troy University’s BSN and MSN programs. She has been a nurse for over twenty years, working in various settings. She was introduced to mental health in 2009 after beginning a career with the Department of Veterans Affairs which allowed her to recognize the vital need for increased access to mental health services nationwide. Cicely obtained a post-master’s certificate in mental health and became a board-certified lifespan Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in 2017 after graduating from the University of South Alabama. Cicely enjoys helping patients with various psychiatric diagnoses achieve and maintain their highest degree of physical and mental functioning, recognizing that these coexist along with socio-cultural factors and influences in one’s life. She has worked in inpatient, outpatient, and primary care integrated mental health programs.

Cicely has had loved ones and family members impacted by mental health issues, and constantly strives to serve as a mental health advocate in her community. She is active in both national and local nursing organizations to include the American Psychiatric Nurses Association, the American Nurses Association, the Alabama State Nurses Organization, and the Advanced Practitioners for the River Region. Cicely is also board certified as an Adult Health Clinical Nurse Specialist and has served as a mentor and clinical adjunct instructor for BSN nursing students at Tuskegee University since 2013. She enjoys introducing them to psychiatric nursing and the wonderful career opportunities it presents.

Cicely lives in central Alabama and during her spare time her greatest joy is spending time with her husband, their two children, and their combined families. She also enjoys shopping, traveling, going to music concerts, and binge-watching movies on Netflix.
