Valarie is a dual Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental health Nurse Practitioner serving patients across the lifespan. Valarie sees her patients as whole people and strives to offer holistic care. Valarie is passionate about psychiatry and optimizing her patients’ mental health so that they can function as their best selves. Valarie started her nursing career as a Certified Nursing Assistant and Psychiatric Mental Health technician working in various settings to include geriatric patients in long term care facilities suffering from dementia, inpatient drug treatment centers with children/adolescents dually battling drug addiction and mental illness, adult inpatient mental health facilities and emergency rooms. Valarie found a passion for helping others and knew nursing was her calling in life. Valarie has seventeen years of nursing experience, with ten years spent in the Medical ICU. Valarie has also worked in the Emergency Room, Cardiac Telemetry, Cardiac Cath Lab, Coronary Care Unit, and Inpatient Psychiatry. Valarie was inspired by her mother, a Registered Nurse, to pursue her nursing degree. Valarie completed her Associate’s degree in Nursing at San Antonio College in San Antonio, Tx., Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Nursing with a focus in Family Nurse Practitioner from Texas Tech University HSC in Lubbock, Tx, and Post Master’s Certification in Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner from University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley. Valarie is currently pursuing her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree at the University of Texas at Arlington and researching ways to bridge the gap between rural communities and access to mental health care. It is her goal to provide culturally competent and compassionate care to persons of diverse backgrounds.
Valarie enjoys most of her free time spending quality time with family, reading, watching movies (drama and suspense), traveling, designing, listening to motivational podcasts, rest, and relaxing. Valarie looks forward to serving you with your mental health care needs.
