As part of our commitment to providing the highest standard of care, we are implementing a new policy that requires all patients to have an in-person medical appointment at least once every 12 months. This change aligns with best practices and DEA recommendations to ensure patient safety when prescribing controlled substances.

Starting January 1, 2025, all patients prescribed controlled medications must complete an annual in-person visit to continue their care. This requirement can be fulfilled either directly at Mile High Psychiatry during a scheduled in-person appointment or through in-person wellness visit with your primary care provider, who would complete our Collaborative Practitioner Referral Form to confirm the visit.

If you were initially referred to us by your primary care provider following an in-person visit, that original referral will satisfy the requirement for your first in-person appointment. Moving forward, however, an annual visit will still be required.

While telehealth remains invaluable for many aspects of your treatment, we believe that regular face-to-face evaluations enhance our ability to provide safe, effective, and personalized care. Even if you are not currently taking a controlled substance, we encourage you to schedule an annual visit to meet this requirement should the need arise in the future. This policy is designed not only to comply with federal guidelines under the Ryan Haight Act but also to reinforce our dedication to your well-being.

This annual in-person appointment is now a condition of continuing care with our practice. We value our relationship with you and are dedicated to maintaining the highest level of service.

FAQ

Since my telehealth provider is located out of state how will I complete the in-person requirement?

We understand that, since many of our telehealth providers may be located out of state, fulfilling this requirement may seem a bit confusing. To clarify, you have two options to complete your in-person visit:

  1. Primary Care Provider (PCP) Visit: You may choose to complete this requirement with your primary care provider. After your in-person wellness visit, your PCP will just need to sign our Collaborative Practitioner Referral Form to confirm the visit. Please note that it’s the patient’s responsibility to coordinate with their PCP to complete and return this form if you decide to go this route.
  2. In-Person Appointment with a Mile High Psychiatry Provider: We also offer the option to see one of our in-person PMHNP (Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner) providers for just this annual visit. After this in-person appointment, you can continue your care with your established provider via telehealth for the rest of the year.
