As the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE) comes to an end, many Medicaid patients may be at risk of losing their coverage. At Mile High Psychiatry, we understand that this transition can be stressful and confusing. We are here to help guide you through this process and ensure that you maintain access to essential healthcare services. Here’s what you need to know and the steps you can take to protect your health coverage.

What’s Changing?

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) declared a Public Health Emergency (PHE) in January 2020. This declaration included a continuous coverage requirement for Health First Colorado (Colorado’s Medicaid program) and Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+), ensuring that those enrolled would keep their coverage throughout the pandemic. However, as the PHE concludes, this continuous coverage provision is ending, and regular renewal processes are resuming.

Steps to Keep Your Health Coverage

1. Update Your Contact Information

Make sure Health First Colorado and CHP+ have your current mailing address, phone number, and email. This ensures that you receive all important communications regarding your coverage. You can update your information by visiting CO.gov/PEAK  or contacting your county’s human services office.

2. Check Your Mail and PEAK Inbox Regularly

Be on the lookout for renewal packets and other official messages. These will include instructions on how to renew your coverage. Renewal packets will have red lettering on the envelope marked “URGENT – PLEASE REPLY.”

3. Complete and Return Your Renewal Packet

If you receive a renewal packet, it is crucial to fill it out, sign it, and return it by the due date. This step is essential to determine if you still qualify for Health First Colorado or CHP+.

4. Explore Other Health Insurance Options

If you or a family member no longer qualify for Medicaid or CHP+, you may be eligible to purchase a health plan through Connect for Health Colorado, the state’s official health insurance marketplace. You might qualify for financial assistance to lower the cost of private health insurance. Visit connectforhealthco.com  or call 855-752-6749 for more information.
