TRANSCRIPT
Spencer Thomas – Great Day Colorado Host: [00:00:00] Mental health help is a growing need in our community. Most people choose to forego it due to their busy lifestyles and schedules. But there is a way to get help from the comfort of your own space.
Chris Tomer – Great Day Colorado Host: So telehealth has made it easy to connect to professionals from wherever you are located in. Mile High Psychiatry has made it one of their top priorities and here to tell us more in the sponsored segment is the director of clinical behavioral health, Olaf Garcia.
Well, great to have you in here today. Thanks for coming in.
Olaf Garcia – Director of Clinical Behavioral Health MHP: Thanks for having me.
Chris Tomer – Great Day Colorado Host: So telehealth, it’s this big thing, right? How does it impact what you guys do?
Olaf Garcia – Director of Clinical Behavioral Health MHP: Well, it allows us access to a lot of areas in colorado that wouldn’t usually have access.
Chris Tomer – Great Day Colorado Host: Sure.
Olaf Garcia – Director of Clinical Behavioral Health MHP: You know, in one morning I’m able to start in Greeley and then go to Aurora and go to Rifle without driving a single mile.
I don’t go anywhere.
Spencer Thomas – Great Day Colorado Host: Technology.
Olaf Garcia – Director of Clinical Behavioral Health MHP: It’s kind of, it’s, it’s actually pretty beautiful, you know. I guess one challenge we have is it can be so convenient that people can be tempted to, you know, [00:01:00] phone it in, you know. So like, I’m always trying to ride that balance with my patients. You know, we want to make sure they’re going to set aside, you know, 20 or 30 minutes with a good internet connection, you know, to, to talk, find out how they’re doing, you know, and, and develop a good treatment plan, so.
Spencer Thomas – Great Day Colorado Host: And I want to learn more about televideo. What exactly is that? I don’t think I’ve ever heard of it before. I mean, I could imagine what it would be, right?
Olaf Garcia – Director of Clinical Behavioral Health MHP: It’s like Google Meet for medicine, you know, so We send people a link, they click on it our faces on the screen or our one of our office staff comes and greets them.
And yeah, so you basically are just having a, like a FaceTime chat with, uh, a psychiatrist or a psychologist.
Spencer Thomas – Great Day Colorado Host: Right. As you were talking about before.
Chris Tomer – Great Day Colorado Host: What kind of issues can you, um, diagnose or treat or what can you do through that, that medium?
Olaf Garcia – Director of Clinical Behavioral Health MHP: Yeah. Um, a lot, a pretty wide range, you know, anxiety, depression, [00:02:00] PTSD, ADHD.
Even serious ones like bipolar or, schizophrenia, you know, we can manage pretty well, uh, obviously if someone gets very acute, we could discharge, you know, we can send them to other levels of care and give referrals, but, for the most part, uh, there really isn’t anything we can’t treat, uh, through televideo that we couldn’t treat out of a regular office, you know, so, um, it’s pretty versatile.
Spencer Thomas – Great Day Colorado Host: If you could, uh, describe to me the state of, uh, telehealth right now. I just know from myself and my own peers that so many people are using it in our community. It’s what they rely on nowadays. Am I right on that?
Olaf Garcia – Director of Clinical Behavioral Health MHP: Yes and the state is in flux, you know. So. Telehealth is relatively new. Um, it’s, really, we sort of, it was accelerated when COVID came.
Right, yeah. I think the, the regulatory, you know, infrastructure is still being, you know, we’re, we’re still trying to figure it out. What’s the best way to deliver care, and, and be safe [00:03:00] and be effective. So there’s definitely a lot of, you know, we, we are always trying to stay ahead of, you know, what’s the next best way we can serve people online.
Cause telehealth is not, Definitely not going away. It’s how can we make it better? You know, I was even thinking a couple days ago you know, the one thing we it’s hard to do is do play therapy with kids, you know, but yeah, it’s like Ironically, my boss plays minecraft. I’m like, well, maybe we could do minecraft online with kids.
Spencer Thomas – Great Day Colorado Host: Always thinking.
Olaf Garcia – Director of Clinical Behavioral Health MHP: Yeah Yeah, so I there’s a lot of opportunity out there. I think to really better serve people to be more effective You You know, to squeeze all we can out of this, you know, emerging technology.
Spencer Thomas – Great Day Colorado Host: And it’s cool that it seems like you like to continue to learn and be challenged to help other people who are different and not traditional when it comes to mental health.
All right. Well, if you’re struggling with mental health, call the team at Mile High Psychiatry and set [00:04:00] up a telehealth appointment to learn more.
